Advanced Writers
For teens who've caught the writing bug and want to go further.
Tell us about your writer
This is a small, close group of teenage writers who meet with Karen every week to practise their craft. They work across genres, draft and redraft, and build toward something bigger, sometimes a whole book of their own. It's relaxed, but it's serious about the writing.

Who it's for

Advanced Writers is for teens who've done Young Authors Club or the Talented Kids program, or who come to us by invitation. If your teen already writes for the love of it and wants to make friends who do too, this is their place. Not sure it's the right fit? Tell us about them and we'll help you work it out.

A small group, on purpose

We keep this one capped at 12, too, so every teen's writing gets real attention. Right now it's a close core of writers with room for a few more. That's the point. Small enough that Karen reads every draft and nobody hides at the back (unless they really want to).

What they work on

Longer pieces. Trickier genres. Real feedback they can use. Over a term, most writers finish work they're genuinely proud of, and some keep going until they've written a book.

In one young writer's own words

"I enjoyed it a lot and I'm going to do it again multiple times. I liked the structure of it and that I got to write every week and finish stories." —Mali

"What a great way to encourage young writers and build their confidence especially after they see their stories in print! I'm so proud of my granddaughter Emma who has had her story included in this latest publication 🥳"
Some of our teens have books on the shelf. Keira wrote I'm More Than That, twelve stories about teenagers facing their fears. James, Lillian and Archer each have one too. We don't promise it. We just make room for it to happen.
